AviSynth is a small utility that provides a variety of functions. It was based on script language. The program works as a frameserver, being the mediator between a video player and a video file. It allows the program to execute transformations. The utility can be described as the special codec for text files. It sounds complicated but it’s really far from the truth. It’s a powerful video editing tool that can do a lot of interesting things.
This utility allows users to create scripts to customize video settings, reduce volume, change a scale, and apply visual effects. It also allows you to append video fragments without any limit. You can write a script in a text file using Note application. Of course, it’s not easy to start using this app. At first, you should learn commands that will be useful for your project. We recommend you to read the official documentation of AviSynth project. You can find it in Windows Start → All Programs → AviSynth folder.
Formally, the program hasn’t a graphical interface. But many people use AviSynth in combination with VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod. VirtualDub allows you to open AVS scripts. And it’s the most convenient way to see all changes in the edited video file. We recommend you to user Script Editor (Tools tab) of VirtualDubMod.
AviSynth allows you to create very interesting effects as VHS quality or slow motion. To start using it properly, you need to learn a lot of things and the scripting language.
