Windows Movie Maker crashes constantly

When I am trying to edit videos in Windows Movie Maker, it always crashes down. How to fix the issue?

1) If you launch Windows Movie Maker 2.6 in Windows 7 / 8, then we suggest you run the application in Windows 7 / XP compatibility mode.

2) Besides, you should remove outdated video codecs and install K-Lite Codec Pack. Sometimes it can help to resolve problems with lags and crashes.

3) Otherwise, if you still have the issue, you should open Tools → Option → Compatibility and disable all active filters on the last tab.
