You should open WinRAR and select files that you want to compress. Use the Add button, which is on the top menu. Then you need to choose an archive name, format (RAR, ZIP, RAR5), and compression method. There are auxiliary options, as password protection, archive splitting, creating solid or SFX archive, testing archived files, adding recovery record. The last tab allows you to create comments for your archive.
You can also use the context menu and select Add files to archive from the drop-down list. That's useful when you won't open the WinRAR manager.
